Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Impressions – 130 Hours of Love

Certain things in life are way too good to rush.

After well over 130 hours of game time on the Nintendo Switch, my verdict is in: One of the finest games I have ever played! This game is constructed so well, it gives me goose bumps.

The series in general, has a deep history in my time of playing video games.

Lets start at the beginning: gold cart, NES, The Legend of Zelda. My princess, my first love. Truly a classic, this game had me at hello and never let me go.

Until… The Adventure of Link. I just couldn’t get into it, game genie wouldn’t let me make the game remotely interesting with cheats, got about half way through and quit like a scrub!

Until… another Zelda game would change my life for the better: The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening! I was able to meet one of my life long friends through this game and he introduced me to two more friends I will have for life. A game I will never forget. And the best part is, the game remains great to this day.

Ocarina of time: another great game I had a blast playing! One of the best Zelda games I’ve had the time to play. After this entry, I took a long break from the series.

Until…

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild!

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

How I have longed for an open world action/adventure game, and boy does it deliver!

At first I got lost in it, devoured by it, made me blind; I was overwhelmed….once I calmed down and slowly took it all in it was too late. I had been sucked in. Let’s start at the beginning (spoiler free) after waking up from a nap, it’s time to go after Gannon but you’re going to need some help from the divine beasts. Enough desert, I want to talk to you about the meat and potatoes here.

From the very start you have the ability to go anywhere you want, even make your way to the end game if you have the sack to do so. Your literally able to complete the game from any angle you chose and I do mean ANY. the ability to cook delicious meals on a camp fire, providing you with health or added stats. Climb mountains, glide freely from the highest peaks taking you to undiscovered areas, roam the prairies , find a horse, ride that horse. Discover things about yourself and BE THE HERO.

You’re going to need weapons, lots of weapons. Shields and bows, lots of them. Why do you ask? Because your maker hates you! Weapons, shields and bows break and will even ignite if you run in an area that’s too hot to handle.

Weather is outrageous and can be downright deadly in Hyrule, whether you fall to your death climbing a cliff during the rain or having metal equipment on during a lightning storm. Losing health due to hot or frigid temperatures is a certainty. Your environmental climate has power during your gameplay.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This game is like a house in a sense; it will soak up as much time as you can throw at it, at the end you will feel rewarded and accomplished. Hundreds of ingredients, gems and rupees will keep you playing for hours.

Even after all my time in I’m still only a fraction in my completion. Completing shrines for hearts, locating Korok seeds for more storage, upgrading gear at great fairy pools or completing side quests is a daunting task but one that will be worth every minute

Though the story can be slow at times, and certain elements such as cooking and gathering weapons can be a little tedious, it’s really not as bad as it sounds. Life gets better, I promise. One of my only gripes in this game is the ability to become overpowered pretty quick. Parries and dodge counter combos will leave your enemies in awe of your unprecedented strength and soon the calamity Gannon will as well. So get out there degenerates, get on your Switch, get your game on and rescue the princess Zelda.

After all, she ❤️’S you.
